Jose Garcia Martin is a trailblazing poet and community leader, distinguished as the City of Lathrop’s inaugural Poet Laureate. His poetry is a tapestry of social, political, and religious themes woven into vivid and gritty storytelling.
As the first poet to hold this esteemed position, he is part of a pioneering program by the Library and Literacy Foundation for San Joaquin County, fostering a love of literature and poetry that transcends generations. His appointment is a testament to his unwavering commitment to artistic expression and community engagement. He has been a vibrant presence at events such as Lathrop High’s Art Invasion Day, Lodi Library’s Mosaic of Voices, Juneteenth, Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and Lathrop’s Incorporation Celebration, using his words to inspire and unite.
Within the Lathrop Juneteenth Heritage Committee, he brings his unique voice to the forefront, crafting experiences that blend education with inspiration. He ensures that the spirit of Juneteenth is celebrated in a way that is both authentic and unforgettable.
